Are You Overlooking
the Moon?
by Paula Langguth
Ryan
I was lying on the
beach next to my dear friend Beth, basking in the Baltimore sun, when I opened
my eyes and realized that I could see the moon in the bright day sky. It
surprised me so, that I pointed it out to her.
"Where did THAT come
from?" she asked.
"I think it's always
been there," I replied.
"I guess it's like
when the thing you were looking for was right in front of you all the time."
I nodded in
agreement.
"And you just didn't
notice because you weren't expecting to find it there."
How often does this
same theory apply to our finances? All too often, we're so busy trying to find a
"fix" for whatever is going wrong in our finances that we don't realize that the
only way to truly fix what's wrong is to stop trying to fix it.
Imagine you're in a
small boat that is drifting out to sea. You start to panic, maybe stand up,
trying to wave for help, or you start frantically bailing. All the while, you're
causing the boat to rock more and more, tipping precariously to one side and
then the next. You become certain that the boat will capsize or take on so much
water that sinking is inevitable -- and imminent.
But what would
happen if you just stopped trying to fix the situation? What would happen if you
held still for a moment. If you backed off from your efforts to mend your past
mistakes and simply allowed everything to just be. The boat would eventually
stop tipping. The water -- your debt -- would eventually stop pouring in.
Sometimes, the only
way to heal your relationship with money is to completely stop trying to "fix
it." Let the Universe calm the ripples down. Do nothing. Simply be present. Do
not run, do not hide. Just take a momentary pause to catch your breath.
In this stillness,
you will find that your future course, your faith, your abundance, your moon, is
clearly visible. In fact, it's been there all the time.
