What's
Your True Self Worth? by
Paula Langguth Ryan (excerpted
from the forthcoming Heal Your Relationship With Money: An Adventure in Creating
the Life You Truly Desire) One
of the biggest fears many of us face when we make a commitment to heal our
relationship with money is the fear that we don't deserve to have everything we
desire. Do you ever feel that asking the Universe to give you what you desire is selfish? When
so many have so little, what right do you have to ask for your heart's desire,
right?
Do
you ever feel like you have to struggle in order to "earn" what you
deserve?
Do
you feel like you don't -- or never will -- have enough, do enough or be enough?
The
level of abundance in our lives has a lot to do with how we value ourselves and
what we have in our lives and how we discount the value in our lives. Have you
ever felt trapped in a job where you felt underpaid and underappreciated? I
was coaching a client recently who said she didn't believe her employer valued
her contributions. "How much do they pay you?" I asked. "Just
about $24,000." "How much would you like to be earning?" She
hesitated. "At least $40,000." I
pounced on that, refusing to let her get away with undervaluing herself.
"Just about" and "at least" are key phrases as to why she's
not currently manifesting $40,000 worth of value in her employment. Even before
she would receive that $40,000, she already knows that this $40,000 is less than
she is worth. The problem is, she doesn't believe in her true self worth.
"Just about" and "at least" are vague amounts that reflect
our low self worth. Ever
ask someone if there's anything else you can do for them and have them
flippantly reply "oh, a million bucks should just about do it"? This
too is a reflection of a low self worth. The question is: What do you truly
desire as an income or in any other area of your life? How much is
"enough?" My
client took a deep breath and admitted that a figure was always coming into her
head but she didn't feel comfortable expressing it. It seemed like "too
much to ask for." "How much?" I coaxed. "$120.000." It
might seem impossible to bridge the gap between $24,000 and $120,000, but as
you'll soon see, there really is no gap. The bottom line question is: how much
are you WORTH? What value do you put on your worth? This is the measure of your
true SELF worth. The gap is merely the space between your conscious awareness of
the amount of abundance you feel you deserve (as reflected in your income) and
your unconscious awareness of your true value at this moment (what you truly
deserve and have drawn to you already). To
bridge the gap, all you need to do is begin evaluating the value of what already
exists in your life. What
dollar figure do you place on the relationships in your life, at work and at
play?
How
much is your favorite co-worker or mentor worth to you? $10,000? $20,000?
How
much is the knowledge you've received from your job worth to you? $30,000?
What
value do you place on the lessons your children, friends or significant others
have taught you? Your
life contains people, experiences and items that
enhance your value. How much are each of these things worth to you? Not how much
you might have paid for them, but how much are they actually worth to you? There
is much truth to the saying that "one man's trash is another man's
treasure." What people pay you is a reflection of your current self worth.
If you don't feel fully valued at work, you must learn to stop looking outside
to find ways to be supported in your work or to increase your salary. You must
learn to look instead at the value that already exists in your life so that you
learn to embrace your true self worth. Look around at your life right now. Add
up the value of every relationship, every event, every lesson, experience and
spiritual gift you've received in your life to date. THIS is the true measure of
your SELF worth. ***** Paula Langguth Ryan is a prosperity coach and motivational speaker. She is available for conventions, annual meetings, seminars, retreats and workshops.
